CIVIC THEATRE OF ALLENTOWN GRANTED DESIGNATION ON NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
Civic Theatre of Allentown’s 19th Street Theatre has been granted designation on the National Register of Historic Places. With nearly 100 years of history, and nearly 400 productions produced on its stages, the theater has welcomed tens of thousands of patrons through the marquee doors.
The National Register of Historic Places designation is just the first step for the building, Civic Theatre officials said. While restoration efforts have been made to the main auditorium, box office and patron lounge areas, the theatre still requires preservation work on areas of the theatre audiences don’t see on a regular basis, including the upstairs rehearsal hall where the windows are original to the building and in need of replacing.
