George P. Gillen, 86, of Bethlehem, PA, passed away at home on March 8, 2024 with his wife Sheila by his side after a short battle with cancer. George was born on February 6, 1938, in Bethlehem, PA. He attended Allentown Central Catholic High School and spent weekends and summers working at his father's gas station. George proudly served in the US Army, spending two years in Germany during the Cold War as a Russian translator. While attending Moravian College, George worked as a staff photograph­er for the Bethlehem Globe Times. After graduation, he attended Temple University School of Medicine. George embarked on a successful medical career as a radiologis­t at Pottstown Hospital. He later became Chief of Radiology at St. Luke's Muhlenberg Hospital campus. Following his medical career, George pursued law, graduating from Villanova University School of Law and practicing in Bryn Mawr, PA. George's passions included photograph­y, reading, Tai Chi, carving, woodworkin­g, drawing, and painting. He was an avid fan of Philadelph­ia sports, and spent many Sundays watching his beloved Eagles. While George also had a love for dogs, birds and nature, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Langen), children Christophe­r (Kathy), Peter (Tracy), Stephanie Berg (Sean), stepchildr­en Joseph Danser (Colleen A.), Colleen L. Danser, Kellie Danser, grandchild­ren Benjamin, Gregory, Ella, Sofia, Noah, Elena, step-grandchild­ren Jacob and Julia, sister Ann Fulkerson, and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Schwoyer), and brothers Joseph and John Thomas. A private memorial service will be held for family. George will be remembered for his dedication to his family and friends, his love of learning, and his passion for his many hobbies. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The Gillen family is grateful to St. Lukes Hospice for the comfort and excellent care they provided to George and his family.
