Wildlands Conservancy is offering the following events in April:
Get Out! for Wellness: Swiftwater Forest Preserve: 1-3 p.m. April 7, Swiftwater Forest Preserve, 239 Donaldson Road, Paradise Township. Hike through softwoods and spring flowers for about 2.5 miles in 98 acres of woodland owned by Paradise Township, highlighting work on an erosion project. Pre-K Pathfinders: Botany: 10-11 a.m. April 9, Trexler Environmental Center, 4935 Orchard Road, North Whitehall Township. For children ages 3-5 and their grown-ups: April Showers bring May Flowers. Wildlife of the Watershed: Seasonal Series: 10-11:30 a.m. April 13, Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Lower Macungie Township. Spring is in the air. Learn about the native wildlife of the Lehigh Valley: seasonal wildlife migration, offspring, and behavioral changes. Afterwards, take a binocular hike around the Sanctuary, looking for signs of wildlife and listening for bird songs. For information, email Haley D’Agostino, HDAgostino@wildlandpa.org. Get Out! for Wellness: Bear Swamp Boardwalk and Minsi Lake: 10- a.m. to noon April 13, Bear Swamp Boardwalk and Minsi Lake, 1280 Lake Minsi Drive, Upper Mount Bethel Township. Hike through a pleasant forest in Upper Mount Bethel Township, then cross Lake Minsi Drive to the Boardwalk around Bear Swamp to view turtles, frogs, tadpoles and spring flowers. Drive east to Minsi Lake’s western parking lot for viewing of swallows, great blue herons, and butterflies. For information, email Arianna Kohler, AKohler@wildlandspa.org. Free.
Get Out! for Wellness: Wildlands’ Black River Sanctuary: 10 a.m. to noon April 20, Black River Sanctuary, 1310 Black River Road, Salisbury Township. Wildlands Conservancy recently bought 187 acres across the road from Franko Farm Recreation Area. Take a three mile hike, accessing fine views of the Lehigh Valley; this area is a stopover for migrating birds. For information, email Arianna Kohler, AKohler@wildlandspa.org. Moore Park: 1-3 p.m. April 21, Louise Moore Park, 151 Country Club Road, Easton, PA 18045. For children ages 3-5 and their grownups. Celebrate Earth Day. Join Kate Ebel, Senior Restoration Ecologist at Wildlands Conservancy on a conservation tour of Louise Moore Park followed by a spring planting. Gloves and shovels provided. PreK Pathfinders: Habitat Heroes: 10 a.m. to noon April 25, Wayne A. Grube Park, 1200 Willowbrook Road, Allen Township. For children ages 3-5 and their grownups. Join them for an interactive story walk that will take you on a journey through the forest to save your local wildlife, just in time for EarthDay. Beginners Guide to Camping: 10 a.m. to noon April 27, Trexler Nature Preserve, Environmental Education Center, 4935 Orchard Road, North Whitehall Township. For all ages: Join Wildlands Conservancy for a daytime campout. Learn how to pitch a tent, start a campfire and other basic skills you need to survive a night outdoors. Backyard Naturalist: Arbor Day: 1-2:30 p.m. April 27, Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Lower Macungie Township. Join them for an Arbor Day celebration. Learn to identify Pennsylvania native trees and go on a hunt for wildflowers. Join them afterwards for a tree tea taste test. For information, email Haley D’Agostino, HDAgostino@wildlandpa.org. Get Out for Wellness: Wildlands’ Maple Tract Preserve: 1-3 p.m. April 28, Wildlands Conservancy’s Maple Tract Preserve, 271 Stoney Hollow Road, Tunkhannock Township. The preserve’s trails roll up evergreen hills and down into rhododendron-filled valleys. These glacial wetlands are fragile and uncommon ecosystems. Join this 2-4 mile hike. Leashed dogs welcome.
