The Morning Call

Positive injury news, Tate, Ertz, and the 4th-and-goal decision

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles certainly could use defensive tackle Tim Jernigan on Sunday against Dallas, and looks like they’ll have him.

Jernigan, who made his season debut last week against the Giants after missing the first 10 weeks with a back injury suffered during the offseason, missed Monday night’s win over Washington after experiencing back spasms during pregame warmups.

“He’s doing OK. He’s doing fine,” coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday. “He’s still going to be in the mix. We expect him to be available this week. We’ll see [Wednesday] when we get back on the field.”

In their first meeting with Dallas, the Eagles were thrashed by Ezekiel Elliott, who piled up 151 yards rushing on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Jernigan last week let Saquon Barkley know “there’s a new sheriff in town” — granted Barkley still gained 101 yards on 13 carries — but there’s no question his presence is needed if the Eagles hope to contain Elliott and keep their season alive.

The other Eagle to get dinged

Monday night was left tackle Jason Peters, who has an ankle injury after getting “rolled up,” Pederson said.

Expect Peters to play vs. Dallas too.

“He's going to be OK,” Pederson said. “He should be fine.”

Will the Eagles get anyone back vs. Dallas? Pederson didn't want to commit but said linebacker Jordan Hicks (calf ) and defensive back Avonte Maddox (ankle, knee) are close and “day to day” and corner Jalen Mills (foot) is “probably a little bit further away.”

Hicks and Maddox have missed the last two games, and Mills has been out the last four.
