EPC, Colonial League tournament fields set

It took the power rankings system to sort out the Eastern Pennsylvan­ia Conference boys bracket, but the EPC and Colonial League boys and girls basketball tournament­s are now set.

The 2018-19 postseason officially begins Friday night.

Eastern Pennsylvan­ia Conference

In EPC boys, the last two in were Central Catholic and Easton. The Vikings and Red Rovers were in a four-way tie at 9-7 with Pocono Mountain West and Parkland.

The power rankings were used to give the No. 7 spot to Central Catholic and No. 8 to Easton.

So, it will be Easton at No. 1 Bethlehem Catholic and Central Catholic at No. 2 Emmaus in boys games Friday night.

Also, No. 6 Allen will play at No. 3 Pocono Mountain East and No. 5 Freedom visits No. 4 Nazareth.

The CCHS-Emmaus game is a 6 p.m. start. Allen-Pocono East will start at 7 p.m.

The other two games — at Becahi and Nazareth will start at 7:30 since they are the second game of girl-boy doublehead­ers.

On the girls side, No. 8 Pleasant Valley is at No. 1 Becahi. No. 7 Central Catholic is at No. 2 Northampto­n, No. 6 Pocono Mountain West is at No. 3 Nazareth and No. 5 Parkland is at No. 4 Freedom.

The games at Becahi and Nazareth are 6 p.m. The games at Northampto­n will start at 7 p.m.

The EPC boys semis are set for Tuesday and the girls semis are scheduled for Wednesday at a neutral site to be determined. The EPC will have a girl-boy championsh­ip doublehead­er beginning at 6 p.m. on Feb. 15.

Colonial League

In Colonial League boys, Moravian Academy and Southern Lehigh are division champs and get byes into Wednesday night’s semis at Catasauqua High School.

No. 2 seed Southern Lehigh will play either Northern Lehigh or Notre Dame at 6 p.m. Wednesday and top-seeded Moravian Academy faces either Wilson or Bangor at 7:30.

The quarterfin­als are set for Saturday with Northern Lehigh playing at Notre Dame at 7 p.m. Wilson at Bangor also at 7 p.m.

In Colonial girls, Saturday’s quarterfin­als have No. 6 Moravian Academy playing at No. 3 Northweste­rn Lehigh and No. 5 Wilson playing at No. 4 Bangor.

The Moravian-Northweste­rn game will be played at 6 p.m. while Wilson will visit Bangor at 5 p.m..

No. 1 seed Notre Dame will play the Wilson-Bangor winner at 7:30 Tuesday night at Catasauqua in the semifinals. The Moravian-Northweste­rn winner will play No. 2 seed Southern Lehigh at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

A girl-boy championsh­ip doublehead­er on Feb. 15 at a site to be determined will cap the Colonial League tournament. The girls game will start at 6 p.m.

The defending champs are Bethlehem Catholic in both EPC girls and boys and the Bangor boys and Southern Lehigh girls.
