Phillies extend camp invites to 15 players in system

The Phillies on Monday extended invitation­s to major league spring training to 15 players in their minor league system, including their two top prospects and five relievers.

Pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater, Florida on Feb. 11, and the rest of the team is scheduled to report by Feb. 16. The first exhibition game is Feb. 22 at Detroit.

Catcher Christian Bethancour­t; infielders Phil Gosselin, Josh Harrison and Ronald Torreyes; and outfielder­s Mikie Mahtook and Matt Szczur were invited previously and join the following 15 players:

Alec Bohm, 3B: One of the crown jewels of the Phillies’ system, Bohm, 23, won the Paul Owens Award last year as the organizati­on’s top minor leaguer. He hit .305/.378./.518 with 30 doubles, 21 home runs and 80 RBIs last season, moving from Lakewood to Clearwater (both single A) to double-A Reading. He represente­d the Phils in the All-Star Futures Game and the Arizona Fall League’s Fall Stars Game. The Phils selected him with the third overall pick in the 2018 draft. He’ll likely open the season with the IronPigs.

Connor Brogdon, RHP: The 25-yearold Brogdon had a 2.61 ERA and 0.92 WHIP while holding opponents to a .173 batting average and averaging 12.6 K’s/9 in 76 innings in 51 relief appearance­s last season. Selected by the Phils in the 10th round of 2017 draft, he moved through the system in 2019, pitching for Clearwater, Reading and triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kyle Dohy, LHP: Dohy, 23, pitched for Reading and Lehigh Valley last season and averaged 14 K’s/9 in 47 appearance­s in relief. He was the only Phils minor leaguer to strike out more than 100 batters in fewer than 70 innings. The Phils selected Dohy in the 16th round of the 2017 draft.

Tyler Gilbert, LHP: A sixth-round pick in the 2015 draft, the 26-year-old Gilbert recorded a 2.83 ERA in 47 2⁄3 innings with the IronPigs last season, with 46 strikeouts and 14 walks in 36 relief appearance­s. He participat­ed in the Phils’ camp last season.

Darick Hall, 1B: Hall, 24, spent last season with the Reading Fightin Phils and finished in the top six in the Eastern League in doubles (38, first), extra-base hits (59, first), total bases (207 first), home runs (20, T-second), slugging percentage (.454, fourth), OPS (.798, fourth), walks (60, fifth) and runs (69, sixth). The Phillies selected him in the 14th round of the 2016 draft.

Spencer Howard, RHP: The other jewel of the Phils’ system, the 23-yearold Howard was named their top-rated prospect by Baseball America. In 15 combined starts last season between the Gulf Coast League Phillies, Clearwater and Reading, he had a 2.03 ERA and 0.83 WIP while striking out 11.9 batters per nine innings. The Phillies selected Howard in the second round of the 2017 draft, and he is expected to start the season with Lehigh Valley.

Damon Jones, LHP: Jones K’d 152 hitters last season to lead all Phillies minor leaguers. In 114 1⁄3 innings over 23 starts for Clearwater, Reading and Lehigh Valley, he went 5-4 with a 2.81 ERA. The Phils selected the 25-yearold Jones in the 18th round in 2017.

Henri Lartigue, C: In 77 games for the Fightin Phils in 2019, Lartigue threw out 34.3% of attempted base stealers in posted a .990 fielding percentage. The Phils drafted him in the seventh round of the 2016 draft.

Austin Listi, 1B/OF: Listi, 26, hit .252/.344/.434 combined last season with the Fightins and IronPigs. This is the second straight appearance in Phils’ camp for Listi, who won the Paul Owens Award in 2018.

Nick Maton, 2B/SS: Selected by the Phils in the seventh round of the 2017 draft, the 22-year-old Maton hit .266/ .349/.376 with Clearwater and Reading last season. He’s the team’s 10th-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America.

Mickey Moniak, OF: The first overall pick in the 2016 draft, Moniak will be in the major league camp for the second straight year. He hit .252 with 11 homers, 67 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. He led the Eastern League last season in triples (13) and was second in extrabase hits (52) and total bases (204). Although he has yet to live up to his draft status, Moniak is only 21.

Ramon Rosso, RHP: Russo, 23, went 5-6 with a 4.46 ERA in 24 combined starts last season with the Fightins and IronPigs. He is 23-10 with a 2.80 ERA in 62 appearance­s (60 starts) in three minor league seasons. The Phils signed him as an amateur free agent in 2017.

Addison Russ, RHP: Russ recorded a 2.54 ERA, 22 saves and gaudy 12.9 K/9 last season in 55 appearance­s, most in the Eastern League. The 25-year-old has a 2.48 ERA with 50 saves in 126 minor league appearance­s. The Phils drafted him in the 19th round in 2017.

Zach Warren, LHP: In 40 appearance­s for Clearwater last season, Warren, 23, had a 3.30 ERA, 80 strikeouts and .199 batting average against with 80 strikeouts in 60 innings. The Phils selected him in the 14th round of the 2017 draft.

Luke Williams, INF/OF: Williams and Hall were the only two Eastern League players last season with at least 30 doubles and 10 home runs. Williams hit .238 with 30 doubles and 11 homers in 125 games for Reading and started at least one game at every position ,except for pitcher and catcher.
