Edwards, who starts from the 29th position, holds on after taking the lead on the
187th lap.
2000—Shannon Williams strikes out 15 in her 15th shutout of the season and also knocks in the game’s only run in the bottom of the 13th inning to lift Emmaus to a 1-0 win over Hazleton and into the PIAA Class 3A softball championship game.
1990—Allen scores 10 runs in the first inning and rolls by Pennsbury 13-3 to reach the PIAA Class 3A softball title game. However, Easton’s bid to reach the 3A baseball championship game ends when the Red Rovers fall 11-6 to Red Land. 1985—Following through on a pledge to step down if Northern Lehigh’s school board does not reinstate middle school basketball in the district, Glenn Rissmiller resigns as the Bulldogs’ boys basketball coach. In 13 years under Rissmiller the Bulldogs were 238108 (including an undefeated regular season in 1984-85 and a berth in the 1982 PIAA Class 2A title game) and won five straight Centennial League titles.
1985—Allentown College, a Division III independent, and seven other schools form the Eastern States Athletic Conference.
1980—Seven years after becoming the state’s first female athletic director, Emmaus’ Gwen Armitage announces her resignation. 1961—Norm Koch caps his scholastic career by scattering four hits, striking out 17 and accounting for the game’s only run with a fifthinning home run to lead Bethlehem to a 1-0 win over Ringtown and the Hurricanes’ second straight District 11 baseball championship.
1960—As a reward for winning the District 11 Class A boys basketball title, the members of Catasauqua’s boys basketball leave with six chaperones for a weeklong vacation in Miami Beach.
