Save money by cutting state Legislature
It is time for Pennsylvanians to explore the benefits packages of our legislators. Maybe it’s time to consider moving to a part-time Legislature. What have we gained from having them full time?
Our state is one of just four with full-time legislatures with the attached benefits and large staffs California, New York and Michigan are the others.
Pennsylvania is also one of the most gerrymandered states in the country. Bills with wide public support to change redistricting procedures were dithered and ignored by our so-called representatives until they died. Of course they are going to protect their golden goose even at the cost of our voting rights.
Fireworks are torturing our, yes torturing, our communities. And rather than our state legislators who created the mess in the first place stepping up and ending it, they are looking to pass the buck onto local government.
Fireworks were legalized to raise what our short-sighted state legislators thought was easy money. It’s time to look to how much money can be raised by cutting our Legislature and their benefits.
They stopped working for us, the people and our communities a long time ago. Pennsylvanians deserve better. Mary S. Mesaros Allentown
