Backup Striba hot in his first varsity start

A look at the statistical heroes, rankings from Week 4

- By Tom Housenick and Keith Groller

Many of the names below are well known and expected to be here with regularity.

Erik Striba is one, however, that few know let alone figure to be included in this list of Week 4 statistical standouts.

The Bangor sophomore was thrown into the fire in the team’s Colonial League opener Saturday at Saucon Valley. He played hot.

In place of injured Joe Genteel, Striba ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns and passed for another 86 more in a Slaters victory.

“He’s a sophomore backup and this was his first varsity start,” Bangor coach Paul Reduzzi said. “I’m just real happy with him. He’s shown us a lot in practice.

“He had a good season last year down at

the lower levels and we had confidence in him coming in. He plays confident; he really does. He made some good reads tonight. He made some mistakes. We’ll work on that on film. But you can see he’s going to be a leader.”

Matt Frame is a more familiar name in Colonial League circles, but it’s because of his work ethic and relentlessness.

He ran for 54 yards in Northern Lehigh’s second consecutive one-score loss to start the season, but is a more complete player. He had nine tackles, including one sack.

“If you had 11 Matt Frames, you wouldn’t lose,” Bulldogs coach Joe Tout said.

There was no shortage of other standouts throughout the Colonial League and Schuylkill League:
