- — Hazleton Standard-Speaker

A fall surge of COVID-19 cases has begun in Pennsylvania, but unlike in the spring, the Hazleton area isn’t a hot spot.

Compared with the first three months of the pandemic, the Hazleton area accounts for a smaller share of cases in Luzerne, Carbon and Schuylkill counties, an analysis by the Standard-Speaker found. For the analysis, the newspaper compared cases in 42 ZIP codes that make up the Hazleton area with cases countywide.

In Luzerne, the Hazleton area accounted for 58.3% of cases from March 1 to June 11.

Since then, the Hazleton area’s share of Luzerne’s cases dropped to 43.3%.
