Po­lice ID man killed on North­east Ex­ten­sion

The pedes­trian hit and killed Thurs­day morn­ing on the North­east Ex­ten­sion of the Penn­syl­va­nia Turn­pike has been iden­ti­fied as 37-year-old Michael Quimby of Cato, New York.

The Le­high County coro­ner’s of­fice, which is in­ves­ti­gat­ing the death along with state po­lice at Fo­gelsville, said the cause and man­ner of Quimby’s death are pend­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion and test­ing.

Po­lice re­ceived calls around 4:40 a.m. for re­ports of a man walk­ing in and out of traf­fic near mile marker 46.4 in Lower Mil­ford Town­ship.

By the time po­lice ar­rived, he had been hit by more than one ve­hi­cle in the right lane and died at the scene.

The high­way was closed then and traf­fic was di­verted at Quak­er­town exit for hours. The turn­pike re­opened late Thurs­day morn­ing.
