2006: Lehigh County officials confirm that costs for the stadium being built in East Allentown to house a Triple-A minor league baseball team are ballooning over the announced $34.3-million cost and are scrambling to find ways to cut costs and secure additional funding. But they maintain that the facility will open in time for the 2008 season. Team officials also announce the eight finalists from among 3,500 submission­s in a name-the-team contest: Crushers, Gobblers, Keystones, Phantastic­s, Phillies, Vulcans, Woodchucks and IronPigs

1966: The New York Mets purchase the contract of Allentown native Bob Heffner from the Cleveland Indians and assign him to Double-AJacksonvi­lle.
