2006: Le­high County of­fi­cials con­firm that costs for the sta­dium be­ing built in East Al­len­town to house a Triple-A mi­nor league baseball team are bal­loon­ing over the an­nounced $34.3-mil­lion cost and are scram­bling to find ways to cut costs and se­cure ad­di­tional fund­ing. But they main­tain that the fa­cil­ity will open in time for the 2008 sea­son. Team of­fi­cials also an­nounce the eight fi­nal­ists from among 3,500 sub­mis­sions in a name-the-team con­test: Crush­ers, Gob­blers, Key­stones, Phan­tas­tics, Phillies, Vul­cans, Wood­chucks and IronPigs

1966: The New York Mets pur­chase the con­tract of Al­len­town na­tive Bob Heffner from the Cleve­land In­di­ans and as­sign him to Dou­ble-AJack­sonville.
