A look back at Lehigh Valley sports stories over the years from Nov. 23. 1994: Emanuel Tucker runs for 165 yards and four touchdowns and Stroudsburg beats East Stroudsburg 28-19 in their 50th meeting to win the inaugural Mountain Valley Conference football championship.
1989: Meeting as rumors of a conference breakup over recruiting and transfer issues swirl, principals of member schools in the East Penn Conference announce the formation of a committee to“examine the issues concerning transfers and/ or recruitment of athletes in our conference.”The committee, composed of principals George Anderson of Emmaus, Ray Erb of Allen, Dick Culver of Bethlehem Catholic, and athletic directors Dennis Ramella of Central Catholic and Dominic Villani of the Bethlehem School District, is expected to prepare a report by the spring of 1990.
1978: Jim Kilpatrick’s fourth-down, TD run in the final minutes lifts Easton to a 14-7 win over Phillipsburg, clinching the East Penn Conference title and preserving an unbeaten season.
