(8 p.m., 11:50 p.m., FX): Based on the same Rumer Godden novel that also inspired a successful 1947 feature starring Deborah Kerr, this new British limited series adaptation, airing tonight in its entirety, stars Gemma Arterton in the Kerr role of Sister Clodagh, an ambitious young nun heading a mission in the remote Himalayas. The location, a hilltop palace with a tragic history, proves a daunting spiritual home for the nuns.

(8 p.m., CW): Originally created for a streaming service, this four-part 2016 miniseries (airing nightly through Thursday) picks up life among some of the beloved characters from the 2000-07 TV characters as they go through the course of a year. Tonight’s opener is “Winter,” which sees Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) giddy over having an article in the New Yorker. She returns to Stars Hollow to ponder her next steps.
