Many Lehigh Valley-area wrestlers among first set of PA Power Wrestling statewide rankings
District 10 power Reynolds opened its season Friday with a win over Brookville thanks to a major decision in the final bout that broke a tie, so the high school wrestling season in the country’s most respected state in the sport is underway.
With that, PA Power Wrestling ushered in the delayed 2020-21 campaign with its first set of statewide rankings.
Morning Call-area programs are well-represented in Classes 2 A and 3 A, including four No .1 sand a top-ranked team.
Two-time PIAA 2A champion Ryan Crookham of Notre Dame-Green Pond leads the list of top-ranked wrestlers in their respective weight classes. The 132-pounder was returning to shape after an offseason injury delayed his progress and prevented him from competing at FloWrestling’s Who’sNo. 1.
Senior Jagger Condomitti, a returning state runner-up, and sophomore Carson Wagner, a sixth-place finish era year ago, give Northampton two top-ranked kids in 3Aat160and106, respectively.
Returning state champion Lenny Pinto of Stroudsburg is No. 1 at 170.
Notre Dame-Green Pond is ranked first in 2A, one spot ahead of four-time defending champion Reynolds. Saucon Valley, with six ranked wrestlers, is No .4, one spot below two-time 2Arunner-up.
The Crusaders have nine ranked wrestlers, including one in each of the first seven weight classes.
Nazareth (2), Bethlehem Catholic (3) and Northampton (6) are chasing 3A No. 1 Waynesburg, which returns everyone from last year’s state runner-up squad to Nazareth and welcomed a few transfers.
The Blue Eagles and Golden Hawks have eight ranked competitors each. TheKonk re te Kids have five and unranked East on has four.
Twenty-five of the 38 schools in The Morning Coverage area have at least one ranked wrestler.
