Allentown Art Museum set to reopen on Jan. 8
The Allentown Art Museum will reopen its doors to the public on Jan. 8, now that the state’s temporary pandemic restrictions have been lifted, museum officials announced Thursday.
The museum will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Visitors are encouraged but not required to reserve a timed ticket in advance at www. AllentownArtMuseum.org.
COVID protocols will still be in place and include:
■ Operating at reduced capacity and limited hours.
■ Requiring staff and patrons to wear face masks.
■ Enforcing social distancing. Providing hand-sanitizing stations throughout the building.
■ Continuing enhanced cleaning measures throughout the building and daily health screenings for all museum employees.
Pennsylvania’s three-week COVID-19 mitigation orders, which took effect Dec. 12, will expire as scheduled Monday at 8 a.m. During that time, the Allentown Art Museum and other cultural centers in the state had to close to visitors.
As of Monday, cultural centers can reopen to 50% of their capacity.
The start of the new year will also bring some new programming at the museum:
“Rembrandt Revealed,” which spotlights the master’s 1632 painting “Portrait of a Young Woman,” will open in the museum to members on Jan. 23, and to the public on Jan. 24. The painting returns to the Lehigh Valley following conservation in New York that uncovered new information about its creation. “Rembrandt Revealed” will run through May 2. The painting will travel to Canada for exhibition in a Rembrandt show at the National Gallery in Ottawa before returning to Allentown for a second special exhibition in the fall.
Virtual programming will be offered from Jan. 16 to 22 to honor Martin Luther King Jr.
