Chargers, Lions hire head coaches

-

Brandon Staley won’t have to move that far for his first head coaching opportunity.

Staley agreed to become the Chargers head coach Sunday night after one season as the defensive coordinator for the crosstown Rams.

The 38-year old Staley was in demand with interviews also scheduled with the Texans and Eagles. He also had an interview with the Jets before they hired Robert Saleh last week.

Staley replaces Anthony Lynn, who was fired Jan. 4 after going 7-9 this season. Lynn had a 33-31 mark in four seasons and led the Chargers to the divisional round of the playoffs in 2018.

In other head coaching news, the Lions reportedly will hire Dan Campbell.

The 44-year-old has been with the Saints the last five seasons, most recently serving as associate head coach and tight ends coach.

Campbell previously was with the Dolphins. For 12 games in 2015, he went 5-7 as interim head coach after the team fired head coach Joe Philbin.
