Allentown Symphony Ball returns with a Virtual Celebratio­n of Music

Special guests, featured artists, two famous Lehigh Valley natives and more are part of the lineup for Symphony Ball 2021 — A Virtual Celebratio­n of Music, starting at 7 p.m. Feb. 6.

The event is free to watch but there will be opportunit­ies to donate and take part in a silent auction.

Here are some of the highlights of the ball:

Emcee for the event will be Bethlehem’s Daniel Roebuck, who’s appeared in countless TV shows and movies over the course of his 30-year career in Hollywood.

There will be various performanc­es from the Allentown Symphony Orchestra which include the “Prelude to Die Meistersin­ger von Nurnberg” by Richard Wagner, and “Orff ’s Carmina Burana — O Fortuna.” Featured artists include Olga Kern and Lester Lynch performing Gershwin’s “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin’,” Simon Mulligan’s performanc­e of

Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and a fun take on the history of Ball fashions from Carson Kressley — best known for his role on the original “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” as well as Food Network’s ‘Worst Cooks in America: Celebrity Edition” and “Dancing with the Stars.”

There will also be two pre-Ball wine-tasting

sessions with Willamette Valley Vineyards in Oregon.

How it will work: There will be two wine tasting sessions are set up that evening one starting at 4 p.m. and the other at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets: $175, which include a wine tasting session and three bottles of wine from Willamette Valley Vineyards. Those in the Valley are encouraged to pick up their tasting kit (wine plus a special treat) at Miller Symphony Hall. Curbside pickup will be held 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2 and 3. Ticket orders for the wine session need to be placed by Jan. 20. Info: 610-4326715.

All proceeds from the Symphony Ball support the education and community

engagement programs of the Allentown Symphony Associatio­n, which include El Sistema Lehigh Valley, which marks its 10th anniversar­y this season.
