Bangor girl, 17, killed in crash

A 17-year-old Bangor girl was killed in a Friday afternoon crash in Monroe County, state police said.

A 16-year-old female passenger, also of Bangor, was taken with non-life-threatening injuries to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono after the 1:28 p.m. crash in the 200 block of Poplar Valley Road West in Hamilton Township.

The 17-year-old was heading west on Poplar Valley Road West at a high rate of speed, police said in a news release. The car went over the crest of a hill, became airborne, hit a tree and flipped several times.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Monroe County coroner’s office. Authorities did not release the her identity.
