The Morning Call

Lehigh Valley forecast: One more nuisance snow Monday, then a break from storms

- By Anthony Salamone and Michelle Merlin

After a month that has seen nearly 3 feet of snow, things should get calmer this week in the Lehigh Valley. After just a little more snow.

Plan on some precipitation Monday, when the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. After that, this week is looking pretty good, forecasters say.

The forecast Monday calls for 2-4 inches of snow, which could come in a quick one-to-threehour burst in the late morning to early afternoon.

Snow could fall at a rate of 1 inch per hour or more during that time period.

The snow could turn into rain and snow in the afternoon, followed by rain, snow and sleet. We should see a high around 37 degrees and little wind.

“I think it will start as some snow everywhere, but it will probably change to rain, especially south of Interstate 78, in the afternoon,” National Weather Service meteorologist Trent Davis said Sunday.

With the temperature expected to rise above freezing, the roads shouldn’t be difficult to navigate Monday, said Davis, who’s based in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

“It’s pretty minuscule compared to what we’ve seen so far this season,” he said.

The weather service has recorded 53.2 inches of snow in Allentown since Dec. 1, with 34.7 inches during the seemingly every other day storm pattern most of February.

Monday’s storm could push 2021 to the second-snowiest

February recorded in the Lehigh Valley, past 2014 s 36.5 inches. The highest February snow total, 42.9 inches, occurred in 2010, according to weather service data.

After Monday, Davis said, we should see some melting, with sunny skies and near or above-average daytime temperatures for much of the rest of the week.

Forecasters are tracking another storm system into next weekend, but Davis said it appears it will stay south of the Valley.

With what we have had to deal with, we’ll take every relatively

mild day we can get until the first day of spring.
