An erratic driver led officers on a high-speed chase through three Monroe County townships Friday, at one point stopping, exiting his vehicle, pulling a knife and screaming, “Shoot me,” police said.

Daniel Agrelo, 35, of Warrington, will be charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement and fleeing and eluding, in connection with the chase through Pocono, Hamilton and Stroud townships, state police said Friday in a news release.

At 12:30 p.m., a Ford F250 pickup truck was reported speeding south on Route 611 in Pocono Township, illegally passing vehicles.

Minutes later, a state trooper saw the truck run a red light and nearly hit other vehicles at Route 611 and Rimrock Drive in Hamilton Township. The trooper activated lights and sirens and tried stopping the truck, which kept speeding south on Route 611 and illegally passing vehicles.

At Route 611 and Bridge Street in Stroud Township, the driver, later identified as Agrelo, stopped the truck, exited and approached police in “an aggressive, extremely hostile manner,” brandishing a knife and screaming, “Shoot me,” the news release states.

Police gave orders to Agrelo to stop and drop the knife, backing away from him. He then got back into the truck and drove off with police again in pursuit.

Agrelo again stopped and exited the truck on North Ninth Street in Stroud Township, where he resisted arrest to the point where police had to tase him, the news release states.
