Easton’s DeGiulio leads 6 LV medalists
Easton senior Rachel DeGiulio led a group of six Lehigh Valley girls to earn a medal Sunday at the 2021 MyHouse Pennsylvania Girls State Championship wrestling tournament at the Spooky Nook in Manheim.
DeGiulio was 2-1 to take second place at 140 pounds. She recorded a pair of decisions before falling to Bald Eagle Area junior Grace Stem in the final.
DeGiulio is a first-year varsity wrestler who will continue her career next year at East Stroudsburg University.
Pleasant Valley sophomore Mattison Hyland, of Pocono Wrestling Club Athena, was 3-1 including two pins, to place third at 122.
Allen sophomore Rachelly Montas was 3-1 and placed third at 128. She recorded two pins and a major decision. Her only loss was to eventual champion Montana DeLawder of Gettysburg, a Fargo national champion who is a fourtime state champion and ranked second nationally.
Parkland junior Paige Yatcilla was 4-2 and placed fifth at 134. She had a major decision and a pin, then beat Easton’s Kayla Reinert 2-1 in the fifth-place match. Reinert was 3-3 with two pins.
East Stroudsburg South sophomore Angelina Hiller was 2-2 with a pin to finish fifth at 140.
