ATHLETES OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
The Morning Call sports staff will nominate three male and three female athletes each week from area schools based on their performance from the previous week. You are invited to vote for one male and one female athlete. Winners will be announced in Friday’s Morning Call Sports section. One male and one female winner will be awarded a $500 scholarship by CH Foundation. Voting is open from 5 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Thursday at themorningcall.com/ athleteoftheweek
BOYS CJ Miles, Bangor basketball
Averaged 25.5 points, 5.5 assists and made 45 3-pointers for a team that won the Colonial League title and its first District 11 championship since 1988. Finished career with more than 1,050 points.
Brett Ungar, Notre Dame-GP wrestling
The 120-pounder beat 2 top 10-ranked wrestlers to win the PIAA 2A championship. He was 143-6 in his career. Evan Gleason, Bethlehem Catholic
Harvard commit earned 5th place at PIAA 3A tournament for a second year in a row, after winning the 3A East Super Regional championship at 152 pounds with three victories by a composite
16-4 score.
GIRLS
Lindsay Berger, Parkland basketball
Led Trojans to first District 11 title game in the highest classification in 7 seasons. She topped 20 points 6 times this season and finishes her career with 953 points. Talya Brugler, Nazareth basketball
Became the team’s all-time scorer with 1,600 points and has scored the most postseason points (340) in the program’s history. This season she averaged 15.3 points per game and 8.6 rebounds.
Morgan Sterner, Northampton basketball
Became the 13th in the program’s history to reach 1,000 career points with a 22-point effort in a win over Emmaus on Feb. 26. She averaged 15 points a game this season with 20 3-pointers.
