ATHLETES OF THE WEEK NOMINEES

The Morning Call sports staff will nominate three male and three female athletes each week from area schools based on their performance from the previous week. You are invited to vote for one male and one female athlete. Winners will be announced in Friday’s Morning Call Sports section. One male and one female winner will be awarded a $500 scholarship by CH Foundation. Voting is open from 5 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Thursday at themorningcall.com/ athleteoftheweek

Male nominees Jack McGorry, Allentown Central Catholic

lacrosse: The Saint Joseph’s commit scored four goals in Vikings’ 14-4 win over Easton. Has compiled 17 goals and five assists in first four contests this season.

Matt Chaikowsky, Saucon Valley track &

field: The senior distance runner ran an areabest time of 9:49.40 in a tri-meet against Notre Dame-Green Pond and Wilson.

Jack Rothenhausler, Liberty baseball: Went a combined 6-for-9 with a home run, seven runs scored, and knocked in four runs.

Female nominees

Maria Donahue, Saucon Valley lacrosse: The Pittsburgh recruit scored seven goals with five assists in Panthers’ three games last week. Has amassed 20 goals and six assists through five games.

Alexis Doherty, Nazareth track & field: The senior sprinter has the EPC’s top times so far in 2021 in the 200 (26.22) and 400 (57.91).

Katie Zaun, Parkland softball: In three wins, including two over Whitehall, the pitcher allowed just two runs, seven hits, walked just two and struck out 25.
