School record set — twice

Chaikowsky sets Saucon Valley mark in 1,600, then resets it next time out in memorable week

Saucon Valley’s Matt Chaikowsky had a memorable week.

The senior set school records in consecutiv­e meets in the 1,600. He first posted a 4-minute, 26.99-second time in last week’s meet against Salisbury.

He then ran a 4:23.39 in Wednesday’s tri-meet with Bangor and Catasauqua.

Both times are not only the Colonial League’s best but tops in the entire

Lehigh Valley.

Chaikowsky was one of several new names at the top of the Colonial League’s track bests after action through Thursday:

Southern Lehigh junior Aiden Tobin took over the top spot in the boys 400 from teammate Chase Hensinger with a run of 51.30 in Wednesday’s showdown with Palisades.

Fellow Spartan Max Pristas posted a CL-best time of 42.80 in the 300 hurdles, also against Palisades.

On the girls’ side, Palisades sophomore Paige Casterline cleared 5 feet, 2 inches in the high jump at Southern Lehigh.

Northweste­rn senior Caitlyn Miller posted the new top throw in the javelin at Wednesday’s meet at Pen Argyl with an effort of 121-10, which is nearly 8 feet farther than her previous best effort.

In EPC girls, Easton knocked off 10 seconds from its previous best in the 1,600 relay. Nazareth (Sierra Jordan, Skyler Jordan, Caitlin Voloshen and

Kaila Zborezny) was more than 14 seconds faster in its Wednesday meet with Bethlehem Catholic than Emmaus’ previous best time in the 3,200 relay.

Nazareth standout Alexis Doherty now has the fastest time in the 200, 400 and 800 after beating the previous best time in the 800 by more than three seconds with a 2:21.30 on Wednesday against Bethlehem Catholic.
