A look back at Lehigh Valley sports stories over the years from May 15.

2009: Salisbury runs its winning streak to 16 and secures the Colonial League baseball title with a 9-2 win over Northweste­rn behind John Wisser’s complete-game six-hitter. However, the streak ends in the opening round of the District 11 Class 2A tournament with the topseeded Falcons are upset by North Schuylkill, 4-3.

2009: Parkland wins its third straight Lehigh Valley Conference baseball title when shortstop Dan Klem makes a diving stop and throw for the game’s final out with Emmaus runners at second and third, preserving a 4-3 victory.

2004: Janelle Brey scores on an error in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift Moravian to a 6-5 victory over Salisbury State in its first-ever NCAA Division III softball World

Series game. The Greyhounds overcome a 4-0 deficit.

2004: Natalie Herman scores two goals and older sister Emily adds another in a five-minute span early in the first half, lifting Northweste­rn to a 3-1 win over Catasauqua and the Tigers’ fifth straight Colonial League girls soccer title.

2004: Kutztown rallies to best West Virginia State 6-4 in 10 innings to win the NCAA baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional and earn its third Division II World Series berth in four years.

1999: Emmaus continues its dynasty in the District 11 boys volleyball tournament and sends coach Dave Stever out in style by blasting Parkland 15-5, 15-1 in the title match.

It’s the Green Hornets’ 15th district title since 1981 and

11th in 14 years for Stever, who steps down after the season to become coach at Cedar Crest. 1996: Emmaus grad Cindy Werley is named to the U.S. Olympic Field Hockey team. The North Carolina junior is the youngest member of the squad.
