Dodgers: A woman accused Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer of assaulting her during two separate encounters that shifted from consensual to non-consensual, according to a restraining order request filed Monday in Los Angeles County. The woman
said Bauer punched her in the face, buttocks and vagina; strangled her until she reached unconsciousness; and had sex with her while she was unconscious. She said the encounters happened at Bauer’s home early in the mornings of April 22 and May 16. The restraining order request includes her account of the two nights she states she spent with Bauer, text messages and pictures of bruises on her body. Bauer, through his
agent, denies he assaulted the woman and says the sexual relationship was consensual. The agent said Bauer is cooperating with the investigation and shared text messages with media outlets supporting Bauer’s description of his encounters with the woman, The request for a domestic violence restraining order was temporarily granted, with a hearing to review the request scheduled for July 23. Pasadena Police Department officials opened an investigation into the allegation a few weeks ago. Major League Baseball was made aware of a woman’s assault allegations on Tuesday night. Whether MLB will discipline Bauer depends on what happens next. MLB can place Bauer on paid administrative leave for up to seven days without an agreement with the players’ association, but that would require more than an allegation, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Red Sox: Kiké Hernández led off with a HR for the third time in five days, Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven scoreless innings and the host Red Sox routed the struggling Royals 15-1. Danny Santana and Rafael Devers each homered and drove in five runs. J.D. Martinez also homered, starting the Red Sox’s five-run fourth with his 17th of the season. Santana connected for a three-run shot later in the inning. Devers hit his 20th of the year, a three-run blast in the sixth. The Red Sox hit four HRs for the third time in five games and completed a fourgame sweep of the Royals, who lost their ninth straight.
White Sox: Zack Collins hit a tiebreaking HR in the sixth and the White Sox scored at least seven runs for the fourth straight game, completing a three-game sweep of the visiting Twins 8-5. The White Sox got four runs off the Twins bullpen after blowing a 3-0 lead. The AL Central-leading White Sox won their fourth straight after losing seven of nine. Michael Kopech (3-0) pitched a scoreless sixth and Garrett Crochet struck out Miguel Sano to escape a bases-loaded jam in the seventh.
