Dr. Alan F. Korhammer, retired physician and long-time resident of Easton, PA and Dataw Island, SC, passed away on October 9th at age 86 due to complicati­ons from late-stage Alzheimer’s disease. Alan is survived by his three children William Korhammer, Richard Korhammer and Heather Korhammer Jarrett and 8 grandchild­ren. He is predecease­d by his wife, Sheila M. Korhammer (nee Maki).

Alan was born in Mount Vernon, New York, in April

1935, the son of an accountant and school nurse. He grew up there with his mother Frances Korhammer (nee Starr) and father William Korhammer.

Alan attended Princeton University on scholarshi­p and earned an A.B. degree in Biology. Alan’s highlights while at Princeton were leading the lightweigh­t crew team to four consecutiv­e Ivy League Championsh­ips and winning the prestigiou­s Henley Royal Regatta Cup in England on the Thames River his senior year. He later went on to attend Columbia University for medical school where he earned his M.D. to practice OB/GYN at Easton Hospital and was loved by his patients during his 30 years of practice.

Alan fell in love with Sheila Maki (1936-2014) and they were married in 1960. They enjoyed raising their three active children, traveling the world, collecting wines, and throwing memorable theme parties for their friends.

Alan loved playing golf, was an avid wine aficionado, enjoyed skiing, and relaxing with a Cognac while listening to classical music. Alan and Sheila shared a love for raising show dogs and had many English Setters with Nephie his favorite.

A celebratio­n for Alan’s life will take place at 355 Spring Valley Rd, Easton PA 18042 between 12-3 PM on Sunday, October 17. Donations for Alzheimer's research at www.ALZ.org are appreciate­d in lieu of flowers.
