Barbara Ann (Hirsch) Behrens passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in Bethesda, Maryland on Wednesday, October

13, 2021 after valiantly battling breast cancer for five years. She was born in Philadelph­ia, PA on September 17, 1946 to Elsie and William Hirsch who preceded her in death. Ronald Hirsch, her dear brother, predecease­d her in 2006. In high school, she was on a world-famous drill team with Cardinal Dougherty High School, who performed in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day marching down New York’s 5th Avenue. Barbara is survived by her loving family, Siegfried Behrens, Suzanne Behrens, and their children Nicholas, Chloe, and Dylan and her other second son Scott Behrens, and his girlfriend Kelly. Barbara had two careers. First, she pursued nursing and worked 25 years as a registered nurse, mostly at Lehigh Valley Hospital working in the operating room where she had a big impact on so many patients and developed so many lifelong friends. She was also a trauma room nurse and answered the call whenever that call came. Then in the mid-90s she left nursing and became a franchise owner of Rita’s Italian Water Ice, first in Wescosvill­e, PA and then opened a second store on her beloved beach island of Brigantine, NJ. She was a very successful business owner and was awarded the top Rita’s several times. Barbara was a very generous grandmothe­r, mother, sister, cousin and employer to so many. Everyone enjoyed her beach house in Brigantine which brought family and friends together and where so many great times and memories were made. She loved to dance, travel, listen to music especially Barbara

Streisand who was her favorite. She will be so missed and forever remembered for making people happy. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Monday, October 25, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:15AM in Saint Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940 and to the celebratio­n of her funeral Mass at 11:30AM.
