The Morning Call

Emmaus, Parkland have top-10 teams in Class 6A

- By Keith Groller

Emmaus and Parkland are the only one-loss teams remaining in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference’s South Division. They are also both on a roll after September losses to Allentown Central Catholic.

The Green Hornets have won five in a row and the Trojans have won three straight.

They are on a collision course to decide the EPC South crown and perhaps the No. 1 seed in the District 11 6A tournament when they meet on Oct. 29 in Orefield. They are also getting noticed. In the latest state football rankings compiled by Eric Epler of Pennlive.com, both Emmaus and Parkland are ranked among the top-10 teams in Class 6A in Pennsylvania.

Emmaus, which had been ranked until losing to CCHS on Sept. 11, is back in at No. 8. Parkland has jumped from No. 9 to No. 7. North Penn of District One is the No. 1 ranked team in the state followed by unbeaten Mount Lebanon and Central York.

What’s a bit strange is to see Philadelphia Catholic superpowers La Salle College and St. Joe’s

Prep ranked as low as fourth and fifth respectively, but no matter where the rankings have them, District 11 knows one of the two will likely be looming in the state tournament that will begin for our D11 champ Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 26-27.

In terms of other Lehigh Valley

area teams earning statewide attention, Northwestern Lehigh is holding firm at No. 7 in Class 4A and Notre Dame-Green Pond is steady at No. 8 in Class 3A while North Schuylkill continues to be perched in the top spot in 3A.

In fact, the top four teams in all classifications remain the same as they were the week before.

Here’s a look:

Teams to watch: Penn-Trafford (7) 6-1, Spring Grove (3) 6-1, Strath Haven (1) 7-1.

LeBoeuf (10) 6-1, Lakeland (2) 7-1, Wyoming Area (2) 6-1.
