A look back at Lehigh Valley sports stories over the years from Oct. 21. 2006: Eastern, N.J., (17-0) snaps Emmaus’ 56-game field hockey unbeaten streak with a 3-1 win over the visiting Green Hornets (19-1). The win avenges a 4-1 loss to Emmaus the previous season that ended a six-year unbeaten streak by the perennial New Jersey power, which is 175-1-4 over the last eight seasons.

2005: Bryan Hahn runs for 95 yards to become Palisades’ career rushing leader with 2,218 yards while scoring four touchdowns in the Pirates’ 39-0 win over Southern Lehigh.

2004: Andrew Goldstein scores a goal in the 75th minute to give Easton a 1-0 win over Emmaus in the Lehigh Valley Conference soccer championsh­ip, the Red Rovers’ first-ever soccer title.

1996: James Mungro passes Terrin Ash to become the state’s all-time career rushing leader by running for 234 yards in East Stroudsbur­g’s 41-6 Centennial League win over Lehighton. Mungro finishes the game with 7,754 career yards.

1996: Kyheim Tripp runs for 260 yards, breaking Trevor Sykes’ singleseas­on school record, and scores four touchdowns as Upper Perkiomen overcomes a 20-0 first-quarter deficit in a 49-28 Pioneer Athletic Conference victory over Spring-Ford. Tripp finishes the game with 1,543 yards on the season.

1996: Tosh Riddick runs for 291 yards and scores five touchdowns in Dieruff’s 42-18 win over Emmaus.

1995: Lehigh’s Rabih Abdullah sets school and Patriot League records with five rushing touchdowns, and also runs for a league-record 266 yards (second best in school history) in a 34-23 win over Cornell. Abdullah’s touchdown runs cover 70, 52, 55, 15 and 75 yards.

1991: Kristy Knoedler scores two goals and Saucon Valley ends Southern Lehigh’s four-year reign and wins its first Colonial League field hockey title with a 3-1 victory.

1991: Dave Evans resigns after 17 years as Quakertown’s wrestling coach. Under Evans the Panthers post a 177-85-1 dual-meet record, win two Bux-Mont and three Suburban One Liberty Division titles, three sectional crowns, two Division One North titles, a Southeast Region championsh­ip, and crown two state individual champions, John Rittenhous­e and John Hangey. Evans returns for a three-year stint as Panthers coach from 1998-2001 before retiring.

1986: John Jerado, Tom Tharron and Brad Durham each score two goals as Freedom wins its fifth straight East Penn Conference soccer title with a 6-0 victory over Bethlehem Catholic. The shutout is the 11th for the Patriots (16-2-1), who scored a school-record 33 goals during the regular season.

1986: Palisades cross country coach Lou Gonsalves announces his retirement after a 21-year coaching career during which the Pirates boys teams won seven league titles, five team District 11 championsh­ips and boasted five individual district champions. Gonsalves leaves with a career mark of 215-94, including a 112-5 mark from 1979 through 1982 that featured a 61 straight Colonial League victories.

1980: With Coopersbur­g resident Jimmie Schaffer watching from his perch as Kansas City’s bullpen coach, the Phillies win the first world championsh­ip in their history with a 4-1 victory over the Royals at Veterans Stadium in Game 6 of the World Series.
