Robert Charles Pope, Sr., 97, of Quakertown, PA, died October 19, 2021,

at Phoebe Richland, Richlandto­wn, PA. He was predecease­d by his loving wife, Ruth Randall (Zehner) Pope in 2009.

They were married for 65 years. Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 24, 1923, Robert was the son of the late Robert Pope and Ruth (Edling) Pope. After graduating from Cranford High

School, Robert attended Lehigh University where he earned a BA and BS in Electrical Engineerin­g.

Robert honorably served his country during WWII as a Lieutenant in the US Army Air

Force from 1943-1946. He was a bombardier and navigator flying on B29's in the Pacific Theater. He flew eleven bombing missions against

Japan. Robert worked for the Bethlehem Steel Company from 1946-1982 in the Blast Furnace Division. He began as a laborer in ore handling, ore screening, sintering and iron production. He retired in 1982 as the Divisional General Foreman of the Open Hearth and Basic Oxygen

Furnace. Robert and his wife's most satisfying accomplish­ment was the historical restoratio­n of their 1790's Haycock Township farmhouse. He lived in this home for 68 years, and in 2014 he was very proud to preserve 75 acres of his farmland in the Bucks County Agricultur­al Land Preservati­on Program.

Survivors: Son Robert and his wife Beverly in Quakertown, PA; Son David and his wife Suzanne in Sandy, OR; and Daughter Ruth Ann and her partner

Rick Grove in Bath, PA. Grandchild­ren David, Donald, Kirsten, Rebecca, and Adam; Great-Grandchild­ren Hannah, Julia, Justin, and Daniel.

Services: A private gravesite service will be scheduled at the convenienc­e of the family
