A look back at Lehigh Valley sports stories over the years from Oct. 22. 2005: In a showdown between two of the top high school field hockey programs in the country, unbeaten Emmaus (21-0) snaps Eastern, N.J.’s, six-year, 153-game unbeaten streak with a 4-1 victory. Christina Bortz scores all three Emmaus goals against the three-time defending mythical national champions, who fall to 13-1-2 for the season.

2005: D.J. Lenehan becomes Wilson’s career passing leader in yardage (3,061) and touchdown passes (30) when he completes 10 of 21 for 158 yards and two TDs in a 17-0 win over Pen Argyl. 2000: The largest Goodman Stadium crowd that didn’t come to see Lehigh play Lafayette — 16,906 — watches Lehigh score two fourth-quarter touchdowns for a 21-14 win over Bucknell that keeps them unbeaten at 7-0.

1996: Parkland’s Justin Kolumber survives a seven-man playoff and outlasts Downingtow­n’s Greg Marshalek to become the third golfer from District 11 and first in 45 years to win a PIAA championsh­ip. Kolumber and six others finished with a two-day total of 148, and he and Marshalek battled for six holes after the other five challenger­s bowed out on the first playoff hole. Kolumber joins Wilson’s Norm Staats (1938) and Allentown’s Bob Schoener Jr. (1951) as champions from District 11.

1990: Southern Lehigh outshoots Palisades 3-1 in a shootout after the two teams battle to a 2-2 draw through regulation and 20 minutes of overtime for its fourth straight Colonial League soccer title.

1985: Freedom caps the first perfect soccer regular season in school history (19-0-0) with a 5-0 victory over cross-town rival Liberty. The Patriots set school records with 13 shutouts and 129 goals while surrenderi­ng just 10 goals en route to their fourth straight East Penn Conference title, and end the season with a 55-game unbeaten streak in league play.

1984: The Easton Area School Board approves Steve Powell as the Red Rovers new wrestling coach to replace the Dave Crowell, who resigned earlier in the month.

1976: After losses in his first 17 games, Northampto­n coach Charlie Wogenrich gets his first victory as the Konkrete Kids football coach with a 20-0 win over Bethlehem Catholic.

1976: Steve McNamee scores four touchdowns — two on pass receptions, the other two on 81 and 51-yard punt returns — in Phillipsbu­rg’s 48-26 East Penn Conference victory at Allen.

1975: Dan Taber’s two goals and two assists help Palisades win the first Colonial League soccer title with a 4-2 win over Salisbury.

1965: Quakertown’s top-ranked defense stops Central Bucks’ No. 1 offense in a 12-0 win in Quakertown that leaves the Panthers (6-0) atop the Bux-Mont League standings. Central Bucks falls to 4-1.

1960: Four games into the Eastern Profession­al Football Conference season, Allentown Copperhead­s coach Jeep Bednarik resigns over working conditions and the demands of his high school teaching job. Bednarik also is upset that some players did not get paid after the team’s previous game.

1960: Northampto­n scores 19 secondhalf points to overcome a 19-12 halftime deficit and beats previously undefeated Palmerton 31-19 for its 45th straight Lehigh Valley League victory.
