Hubert John Welle, 101, of St. Augustine, FL, died on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at home. Born in Allentown, on September 6, 1920, he was the son of the late Jacob H. and Elizabeth (Bender) Welle. He attended Sacred Heart School and public schools in Allentown, graduating in 1940 from Allentown High School. He was employed at Bethlehem Steel as a machinist until World War II when he enlisted in the Navy as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class in the Seabees- US Naval Constructi­on Forces. He served in the Pacific. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed as a draftsman for the PA Department of Highways- the forerunner to PennDOT. After attending Penn State Extension for television service, he changed career paths and was employed by RCA in Allentown for more than 30 years, interrupte­d only by a call to active duty during the Korean Conflict.

A true craftsman, he designed and built the family home on Mountain Park Road in Allentown where he and his wife raised two children. He was always “on call” for friends and family with homes, television­s, and appliances in need of repair.

He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Knights of St. George.

He was predecease­d by his wife Mary (Valentino), his son Michael, his siblings Bertha (Welle) Jenkins; Rev. Jacob Welle, MSC; and Catherine (Welle) Silfies; and all but a few of his friends.

He is survived by his daughter Patricia with whom he resided, granddaugh­ters Alexandra and Julianne Feldman and Lauren and Nicole Welle, and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, October 29, 2021, in St. Paul's R.C. Church, 920 S. 2nd Street, Allentown. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held from 10am until time of service. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Whitehall. We request face coverings be worn inside the church if you are not vaccinated. Arrangemen­ts are entrusted to K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, Inc., Allentown.
