Lowest weekend death toll since Aug.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 2,425 additional coronavirus cases Monday, in addition to 4,573 cases Saturday and 3,414 Sunday, for a threeday total of 10,412. It is the lowest weekend total since Aug. 30.
The seven-day moving average of newly reported cases was 3,913 per day, down 11.9% from a week ago, and down 14.2% over the last 30 days.
To date, there have been 1.54 million infections statewide.
While rates are declining in 54 of the state’s 67 counties, no county has dipped below the 100 weekly population-adjusted rate that would move it out of “high” community transmission status as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Philadelphia is the closest to descending into the “substantial” classification, adding 109.6 cases in the last seven days for each 100,000 residents.
The state reported 61 deaths Saturday, eight Sunday and four Monday, for a total of 73 since Friday. The seven-day moving average of deaths per day is 64.7, compared with 88 a week ago, a decrease of 26% in the last seven days.
The latest data from the CDC shows there are 7.69 million fully vaccinated people in Pennsylvania, accounting for 60.1% of the population.
Included in those statewide numbers are 424,998 Lehigh Valley residents who are fully vaccinated, accounting for 63% of the local population.
There were 2,786 people hospitalized as of midday Monday compared with 2,783 Sunday. Of those, 683 were in intensive care, and 367 were on ventilators. Statewide hospitalizations have decreased 3% over the last week, and are up 14.8% in the last 30 days.
Hospitals in the five-county region including Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Schuylkill and Monroe report 207 patients, with 54 in intensive care, and 27 on ventilators. Regional hospitalizations have decreased 4.3% over the last week, and are up 5.2% in the last 30 days.
The Lehigh Valley reported 67 additional cases Monday, 33 in Lehigh County and 34 in Northampton County. That brings the total to 92,379.
Four deaths reported Saturday in Northampton County bring the total to 1,723 (933 in Lehigh, 790 in Northampton).
