Elizabeth (Burgess) Winters, 94, of Coopersbur­g, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021, in Fellowship Terrace, Whitehall. She was the wife of the late Arthur R. Winters, Jr. Born in Pittsfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd P. and Elisabeth (Watson) Burgess. Elizabeth was a graduate of Simmons College in Boston, MA.

She worked as a copy editor and proofreade­r for the Atlantic magazine. Betty was a member of Faith Presbyteri­an Church, Emmaus. She was a volunteer and coordinato­r (for 18 years) for the American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery Program.

As a lover of the written word, Betty was always keeping in contact with friends and family through notes and letters. Her upbringing under a proper New England code of ethics made everyone know that they were being thought of no matter where they lived. Betty also loved the fine arts of literature, theater and painting, of which she created several, as well as her appreciati­on of classical music and opera. A multidimen­sional lifelong learner, she was engaged politicall­y and environmen­tally alongside her late husband of nearly 50 years, Art. Survivors: Son Philip L. Winters and his wife Marsha (Henley) of Tampa, FL and grandson: Matthew and his wife Jenna (Provenzano) of Tampa, FL and greatgrand­son, Owen and Betty’s granddaugh­ter Rachel Winters of Tampa, FL. Also survived by son Andrew G. Winters and his wife Deana (Salisbury) of Millersvil­le, PA, and grandson David Winters and Katie Dewitt of Alexandria, VA and Betty’s great-granddaugh­ter Mia. Survived by grandson Alex Winters of State College, PA. Survived by son Paul A. Winters and his wife Gabrielle (Helyenek) of Eagleville and grandson Jack Winters of Eagleville, PA. Betty was predecease­d by her brother Frank W. Burgess of Springfiel­d, MA.
