Dinner by Starlight raises money for St. Luke’s Allentown
The 2021 Dinner by Starlight, which took place on Nov. 4, raised $150,000 in support of renovations to the St. Luke’s Allentown Campus Emergency Department.
The event, now in its 20th year, recognized Allentown Campus front-line health care workers as its 2021 Honorary Star. Bill Moyer, Allentown Campus president, said their commitment made them the clear choice to receive the evening’s top recognition.
During the Dinner by Starlight broadcast, nurses, housekeeping and other staff at St. Luke’s Allentown talked about the support they have received during the pandemic and expressed appreciation for the acknowledgment.
Planned renovations will improve the waiting room experience and increase the number of treatment rooms, reducing hallway overflow and allowing families to comfortably stay with family members. Planned improvements include expanding the current 35 treatment rooms to 55.
Of special significance, each new room will be HEPA filtered for quality air flow — a feature highly valued during the pandemic. The Allentown Campus Emergency Department will be the first in Pennsylvania to implement this feature. In addition, the Emergency Department will also have a “results waiting area” where stable patients can wait for test results, which will open more treatment rooms and drastically reduce wait times for others anticipating care.
PPL joins effort to accelerate global decarbonization
PPL Corp. recently announced it has joined Energy Impact Partners, a global venture capital platform leading the transition to a sustainable future, in its Flagship Fund, Fund II.
The fund received $1 billion in commitments and will focus on investing in venture and growth companies advancing critical climate solutions.
PPL’s participation in Fund II is part of the company’s commitment to invest up to $50 million across EIP’s platform to accelerate the shift to a low-carbon future and drive commercial-scale solutions needed to deliver deep, economywide decarbonization.
Through Fund II, PPL will work with EIP to identify cutting-edge technologies that advance the zero-carbon economy.
This includes companies innovating across supply decarbonization, electrification, tech-enabled infrastructure, reliability and resilience, and intelligent demand.
Earlier this summer, PPL announced its participation in another EIP fund, the Elevate Future Fund, which focuses on enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion by expanding opportunities for underrepresented entrepreneurs and communities in the energy transition.
