John Joseph Cherb, 87, of Jim Thorpe, PA, passed away on November 22, 2021. He was born on November 24, 1933 in

Nesquehoni­ng, PA to

Harry and Margaret (Marouchoc) Cherb. He had the good fortune to meet Shirley Miller,and in 1955 they married. They celebrated 66 loving years ofmarriage in June, and together they raised two daughters, Nancy and Diane.

John graduated from East Mauch Chunk High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-57, receiving an honorable discharge.John received an Associate’s Degree in accounting and continued his education with M Talus CPA Institute, receiving his

CPA license in 1960. For over 40 years he was a partner of Harry Margolis and Co. and a life member of the AICPA and PICPA. John was a Director of the Jim Thorpe

National Bank for 40 years, serving as Chairman of the Board for 17 years and Treasurer for 16.

To know John was to know his generosity. He was a life member of St. John’s Evangelica­l Lutheran Church in the Heights of Jim Thorpe, serving on Church Council and as a Sunday School teacher. He was a former trustee of the Palmerton Hospital and Dimmick Memorial Library. He was a life member of the Carbon Lodge #242 F&AM, Lilly Royal Arch Chapter, Packer Commandery No. 23, the Diligent and Penn Forest Fire Companies and the Bach & Handel Chorale. He served as trustee of the Walter L. Schautz Foundation and fundraised for many local charities.

John enjoyed attending his grandchild­ren’s sporting and academic events, bird-hunting with his Springer and Brittanys, weekends at the bungalow, and golfing. Thanks to “Pop,” his family has lifelong memories of their annual week at the beach. He loved traveling with Shirley, and he never went a day without telling her he

loved her. His family will miss him dearly.

John is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Nancy, wife of James B. Ord of Palmerton and Diane,

wife of Dennis Nester of Milton; grandchild­ren,

James Ord and partner Suzanne Bostrom of Alaska, Danieland wife Kelly Ord of Palmerton, Caitlin Ord of Stroudsbur­g, Casey Ord of West Virginia, Erinand husband John Dixon of State College, Sean Nester of Conshohock­en, and Moira Nester and fiancé Dan McKinley of Boalsburg;great grandchild­ren, Daniel, Kalvin, and Lucas Ord,and Lydia and Declan Dixon; family-friend, David Mueller of Virginia; and nieces & nephews. He was predecease­d by his parents;sisters Margaret Lennon, Rose Zoppi, and Anna McCall; and brothers Harry and Joseph Cherb. The family would like to thank the nurses of St. Luke’s Hospice for their compassion­ate care.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November

29, 2021 at 1:30 PM in St. John’s Evangelica­l Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229, with Rev.

F. Peter Muhr officiatin­g. Family will receive friends 12:00-1:30 PM at the church. Military honors will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. John Lutheran Church Food Bank. The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangemen­ts.
