2011: Madison Burns of Northweste­rn wins her second gold of the week at the PIAA Class 2A swimming championsh­ips. After setting a state record in the 200 IM the day before, she takes first in the 100 breaststro­ke, posting a time of 1:03.72. Kutztown’s Gillian Ryan earns her second gold of the week as well winning the 500 freestyle.

2006: Parkland uses six 3-pointers in the game’s first 11 minutes as a springboar­d to a 69-53 win over Altoona and into the

PIAA Class 4A girls basketball tournament semifinals for the first time. It’s a schoolreco­rd 29th win for the Trojans who advance to meet Oakland Catholic.

2001: Jackie Adamschick scores 15 points and Central Catholic reaches the PIAA

Class 3A girls basketball Eastern final for the second straight year by beating St. Basil 58-38.

2000: Pepe Sanchez’s career-high 15 assists lead No. 5 Temple to a 73-47 win over Patriot League champion Lafayette in a first-round NCAA Tournament game in Buffalo, N.Y. 1991: John Andretti wins the first CART race of his career by taking the checkered flag in the inaugural Gold Coast Indy in Australia, the first CART race ever held outside the U.S. He joins uncle Mario and cousin Michael as winners on the Indy circuit.

1990: Phillipsbu­rg’s Greg Troxell caps a 34-0 season by winning his second straight NJSIAA heavyweigh­t wrestling title.

1990: Nazareth’s Mike Miller becomes the first Blue Eagle to win two state wrestling titles with a 5-4 win over Cedar Cliff’s Chad Pine in the PIAA Class 3A 150-pound final. 1990: Brad Rozanski becomes Upper Perkiomen’s first state wrestling champion by beating Nazareth’s Mike Herceg 15-5 in the PIAA Class 3A 125-pound final.

1990: East Stroudsbur­g University’s bid for a berth in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight ends when host Gannon wins 72-63 in a secondroun­d game in Erie.
