10,000 Maniacs, John Waite and more coming to ArtsQuest’s Musikfest Cafe
At Musikfest Cafe, these are the days you’ll remember.
10,000 Maniacs, who will mark their 40th anniversary, are among the top acts that have been added to the line-up of shows at Musikfest Cafe, ArtsQuest announced Wednesday.
Here’s what we know:
10,000 Maniacs 7 p.m. April 26
Established in 1981, 10,000 Maniacs are known for numerous hits including “These Are Days,” “More Than This,” “Trouble Me” and “Because the Night,” originally written by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith. The band launched the career of singer/songwriter Natalie Merchant and has been covered extensively by wellknown rock groups such as
The Pretenders and Garbage. Now anchored by four original members and frontwoman Mary Ramsey, the band has been touring extensively for the last 27 years and have played at
Musikfest Cafe (in 2015). A Brother’s Revival 8 p.m. June 9
Former members of The Allman Brothers Band and Dickey Betts & Great Southern launched “A Brother’s Revival” to honor the music of the Allman Brothers Band. During the show, they will play fan
favorites, including “Ramblin Man,” “Melissa,” “Whipping Post” and many others.
Built to Spill 7 p.m. Sept. 4
Built to Spill has released eight full-length albums and is known for guitar-centered complex song structures. The band released its first album in 1993 titled “Ultimate Alternative Wavers” with the one of its best-known songs “Three Years Ago Today.” The band gained exposure in 1995 by playing Lollapalooza. Since then, the group changed its musical style often spanning blues and folk to reggae influences. The band’s current lineup includes Doug Martsch, Melanie Radford, and Teresa Esguerra.
John Waite 7 p.m. Nov. 13
The singer/songwriter will perform hits from his 40-year career. Waite, once a member of The Babys and Bad English, is known for some of the most well-known hits from the ‘80s to ‘90s including hits “Missing You,” “When I See You Smile” and “Every Step of The Way.”
