Police are seeking information from the public as they investigate the fatal shooting of a man as he traveled in his vehicle in Pottstown.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Pottstown police Chief Michael Markovich on Tuesday announced a joint investigation into the Sunday incident, during which 22-year-old Nahmer Baird, who listed addresses in Pottstown and Norristown, was shot while traveling in his vehicle along West Street.

Pottstown police responded to a reported shooting at 8:08 p.m. Sunday to find Baird unresponsive in the driver’s seat, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Baird had ties to Pottstown and also listed an address along East Basin Street in Norristown, according to court records.

Baird was transported by ambulance to Pottstown Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m., according to county and Pottstown detectives.

An autopsy performed by

Dr. Kahlil Wardak, a forensic pathologist with the Montgomery County coroner’s office, determined Baird died from a gunshot wound to the torso. The manner of death was ruled homicide.

Authorities said the investigation determined that Baird had been shot at Locust Alley and West Street, where detectives recovered numerous fired cartridge casings.

Based on ballistic evidence located at the scene and surveillance video, the investigation found that there was an exchange of gunfire between occupants of Baird’s car and a black Chrysler 300, according to authorities.

After the shooting, Baird’s vehicle traveled east for approximately two blocks before crashing head-on into a pickup truck, injuring the adult male driver. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
