Mr. Vernon L. Andrew, 80, of Franklin Township, Pa. passed into eternal rest on Sunday, May

29th at St. Luke's Hospital-Carbon. He was the husband of the late Dolores M. “Dolly” (Edwish) Andrew who passed away Jan. 23, 2011. He was the current companion of Susan Tatro of Franklin Township. Born in Lehighton, Pa. on Friday, Aug. 15th, 1941, he was a son of the late Erwin & Elizabeth (Dotter) Andrew. He served our country with the US Air Force during the Viet Nam War in Hawaii attaining the rank of

Airman 2nd Class. Prior to retirement he was employed at Tarkett, Whitehall, Pa. where he was a member of the paper workers local 691

and served as steward, chief steward, financial officer, vice president, & secretary. He served on the Lehigh County Labor Council as a trustee/secretary & worked for his Internatio­nal Union and the Penna. AFL & CIO on special projects throughout Pa. He served for 10 years on the health systems agency as its vice-chair and chair of Carbon County sub-area council & he was very active on behalf of Labor for the United Way of Lehigh Valley. Vern was a very active member of Trinity Evangelica­l Lutheran Church, Lehighton where he served on the parish choir, property committee, special gifts committee, church council, funeral servers, ushers, Trinity-Shepherd house food pantry and volunteere­d for the Carbon County Meals on Wheels. Surviving in addition to his companion Susan is a sister, Janet, wife of John Mcgee of Stroudsbur­g, 2 brothers, Maynard Andrew of E. Weissport, Carl Andrew & his companion
