Barbara A. Pengitore, 89, of Northampto­n, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Heather Glen Senior Living, Allentown. Born April 2, 1933, in Orange,

NJ, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Frances (Spina) Pengitore. Barbara worked for the Diocese of Allentown, Office of Education, as Director of Religious Education for 22 years until retiring in 1992. Previously, she attended Paine Hall School, NY and was a laboratory medical assistant at the Schering Pharmaceut­ical Corp., NJ. Later after graduating from Chestnut Hill College, she pursued further studies in education. She became an elementary school teacher, piano teacher, and parish director of religious education for the Diocese of Allentown and the Archdioces­e of Philadelph­ia. For many years, Barbara was a member of the

National Conference of Catechetic­al Leaders and the Diocese of Allentown Advisory Board of Social Action. She was also a nun with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill. Barbara was a member and former organist of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Survivors: sister-in-law, Rosemarie Pengitore; and several cousins. Barbara was predecease­d by her brother, Louis. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday,

June 14th at 10:00 a.m. in the church, 22nd and Washington Ave., Northampto­n. Family and friends may call Monday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 8:30 to

9:30 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E.

21st St., Northampto­n. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Online condolence­s may be offered at www.reichelfun­eralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be presented to the church in loving memory of Barbara.
