2008: Cody Weiss, Dan Moller and Joe Candelmo combine for 19 strikeouts in Lehigh Valley’s 6-1 win over Suburban One American/ Continenta­l at Citizens Bank Park, helping the local squad reach the finals of the Carpenter Cup baseball tournament. Moller strikes out eight in three innings to help Lehigh Valley. 2006: Liberty quarterbac­k

Dan Persa ends the recruiting suspense before his senior year when he announces he has made a verbal commitment to accept a scholarshi­p offer from Northweste­rn. Persa had set new a school record by throwing 24 touchdown passes in a season in which he threw for 1,806 yards while leading the Hurricanes to a 13-2 record and PIAA Class 4A championsh­ip-game berth.

1999: Nick Bowen slams three homers, including a grand slam, and knocks in 10 runs in Mountainvi­lle’s 20-8 Lehigh Valley Legion victory at East Side Memorial.

1998: Lehigh Valley lashes out 17 hits and overwhelms Berks County 14-1 to win its first Carpenter

Cup baseball tournament. The champions averaged 15 hits while their pitching averaged 12 strikeouts through the four-game tournament, during which they outscored their opponents 47-20. 1993: Salisbury turns to a familiar face as the second boys basketball coach in the school’s history : Frank Yelinko, who served as an assistant coach to retiring coach Bill Paulik for 25 of Paulik’s 30 years. Yelinko will remain as the Falcons’ baseball coach, a post he’s also held for 23 years.

1991: Michael Andretti leads for all but two of the race’s 104 laps, falling behind only during pit stops, and runs away to his second straight win in the Budweiser-GI Joe 200 at Portland.
