Police investigate homicide in Northampton County
State police are investigating the death of a Northampton County man as a homicide.
Lehigh Township Police responded to a home on the 4000 block of Lower Three
Mile Lane, a riverfront road along the Lehigh between
Laurys Station and Walnutport, around 7 p.m. Wednesday. They requested assistance from state police with the death of a male at the residence, according to a news release from state police spokesperson Trooper Nathan Branosky.
Police have identified that person as Michael Austin Powers, 67, of Lehigh Township.
Dale Gogel, a longtime resident of Three Mile Lane who was president of the neighborhood’s boating association for a time, said he periodically had to talk to Powers, a motorcyclist, about the noise coming from his property during visits from Powers’ fellow bikers.
“Noise all hours of the day and night,” Gogel said.
The state police Troop M Major Case Team is leading the investigation, with help from the Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Lehigh Township Police, the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office and Northampton County Coroner’s Office, according to the news release.
“We’re investigating every possible lead,” Northampton County DA Terry Houck said. “The investigation is ongoing, but there’s no evidence to make us think that this was a random act. There’s nothing that indicates to me at this point that the public should be worried for themselves.”
State police request that anyone with potential leads on the case contact 610-861-2026 and reference Incident Number PA22-834290.
