Penn State continued its tour of the South on Thursday with another big addition to its 2023 recruiting class, this time from St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) four-star safety King Mack.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder announced his commitment on social media and picked the Lions over fellow Big Ten finalist Michigan State.

With Mack’s addition, Penn State’s class is up to 16 commitments and ranks among the top 10 in national team rankings from 247Sports, On3 and Rivals. Mack joins St. Thomas Aquinas teammate Conrad Hussey and recent Selma (Ala.) commit DaKaari Nelson to give Penn State a talented trio of safeties so far in the class.

Mack is the smallest and lightest player of that group, but he has blazing speed is a Florida 3A state champ in the 400-meter dash. He plays with instincts and toughness and is a true safety who can make contributions defending both the run and the pass. Mack is listed as a four-star by 247Sports and in the 247Sports composite and On3 consensus rankings. Rivals and On3 both grade him as a three-star prospect.

Mack took an official visit to Michigan State on June 10 and to Penn State on June 17. He told Andrew Ivins from 247Sports that

Penn State offered him after his sophomore season at St. Thomas Aquinas and the coaching staff stayed in close contact ever since. That early offer and attention appeared to pay dividends with Thursday’s commitment.

Penn State running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider led the recruitment of Mack along with safeties coach Anthony Poindexter. Mack is the third player from the state of Florida in Penn State’s class along with Hussey and quarterback Marcus Stokes, and he is the third straight commit to come from the Southeastern Conference footprint along with Nelson and Central (Ala.) four-star edge rusher Tomarrion Parker.
