Saucon Valley schools to have 2-hour delay after Super Bowl
A Lehigh Valley school district is giving students some time to sleep in after the Super Bowl.
“On Monday, February 13, the Saucon Valley School District will be operating on a two hour delay to allow for a more productive day for our students, staff and their families,” according to a post on the district’s Facebook page. “Even if you are not a football fan, I hope that all Panthers can find time to spend with family and friends and enjoy an evening of celebration and relaxation.”
The Eagles are slated to take the field 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Arizona to fight against the Kansas City Chiefs for the title of Super Bowl LVII champion. While a handful of other districts, including those closer to Philadelphia, have already planned for a two-hour delay Monday, the majority of Lehigh Valley school district officials aren’t changing their schedule.
Quakertown Community School District officials last week announced a two-hour delay for the Monday after the Super Bowl.
“… as you prepare for the Eagles Super Bowl LVII victory over Kansas City on Sunday, February 12, Dr. Harner has scheduled a 2-hour delay for Monday, February 13,” according to an email sent to district parents. “Enjoy the game, and if you’re traveling to a friend’s home please stay safe. Go Birds!”
But the majority of Valley districts aren’t planning a change in schedule.
“I do not believe a Super Bowl qualifies for a two hour delay,” said Bethlehem Area School District Superintendent Joseph Roy. “It’s important to remember that a two hour delay creates morning childcare issues for families, especially for working parents.”
Superintendents of Whitehall-Coplay and Northern Lehigh school districts, Robert Steckel and Matthew J. Link, said their districts aren’t going to have a two-hour delay after the Super Bowl. It was a similar response from David Piperato, superintendent of Easton schools, and Robert J. Spengler, superintendent of Catasauqua Area School District.
“ASD plans to follow our regular, board approved calendar,” said Melissa Reese, Allentown School District’s communications manager.
