Lehigh Valley-area wrestlers will be vying for a trip to Hershey

The Class 3A Northeast and Southeast plus the 2A Southeast regional wrestling tournament­s are this weekend. Here are five things to know ahead of the events:

Class 3 A Northeast Regional (at Liberty) Friday:

5 p.m., preliminar­y round; 6:30, quarterfin­als; 7:30, first-round consolatio­ns

Saturday: 9:30 a.m., secondroun­d consolatio­ns; 11, semifinals and third-round consolatio­ns; 12:30 p.m., fourth-round consolatio­ns; 4, first-, third- and fifthplace matches

Class 2 A Southeast Regional (at Freedom) Friday:

4:30 p.m., preliminar­ies; 6:30, quarterfin­als; 8:30, first-round consolatio­ns

Saturday: 9:30 a.m., secondroun­d consolatio­ns; 11, semifinals and third-round consolatio­ns; 12:30 p.m., fourth-round consolatio­ns and seventh-place matches; 4, first-, third- and fifthplace matches

Class 3A Southeast Regional (at Souderton)

Friday: 5 p.m., first round; 8, quarterfin­als

Saturday: 9:30 a.m., firstround consolatio­ns; 11, semifinals, second-round consolatio­ns; 1:30 p.m., third-round consolatio­ns; 2:30, fourth-round consolatio­ns; 6, first-, third- and fifth-place matches

The top six in Class 2A and four in both Class 3A events qualify for the PIAA Wrestling Championsh­ips, which are March 9-11, at Hershey’s Giant Center.

There are eight returning NE 3A regional champions: Bethlehem Catholic’s Nate Desmond, Cael McIntyre, Kollin Rath, Andrew Harmon and Luke Thomas; Nazareth’s Sonny Sasso and Sean Kinney plus Northampto­n’s Dagen Condomitti.

Bethlehem Catholic’s Tyler Kasak would have been chasing a fourth regional title, but he skipped his senior season to train in State College in preparatio­n for a career at Penn State.

Delaware Valley’s Zach Jacaruso, a two-time regional champion, suffered a season-ending knee injury in mid-January.

Northampto­n’s Carson Wagner, a 2021 regional champion, is in the 114 field.

There are seven returning SE 2A regional champs: Northern Lebanon’s Aaron Seidel, Faith Christian’s Gauge Botero and Chase Hontz, Notre Dame-GP’s Holden Garcia, Saucon Valley’s Jake Jones, TriValley’s Jake Scheib and Bishop McDevitt’s Riley Robell.

Bishop McDevitt’s Andrew Christie’s season-ending knee injury prevented him battling for another regional title.

There are four returning SE 3A regional champs: Council Rock North’s Eren Sement, West Chester Henderson’s Carmen Cortese, Quakertown’s Collin Gaja and Council Rock South’s Bekhruz Sadriddino­v.
