A 19-year-old Quakertown woman died Monday morning after crashing a car into a downtown railroad-crossing pole, borough police said. The Bucks County coroner’s office said the woman’s vehicle hit the post “at high speed.”

Ashley Kul i c k was pronounced dead less than an hour after the 5:45 a.m. accident, authorities said. The crash happened in the first block of West Broad Street, near Front Street, at the East and West Broad streets border. The road is also state Route 313.

Sgt. Steven Stoneback said Kulick was traveling east on West Broad Street when her sport utility vehicle went off the road, climbed a curb and hit a concrete block just under the pole. The impact sheared off the pole, according to Stoneback.

Stoneback said video of the crash did not indicate what led to the fatal accident. But Bucks Coroner Meredith Buck, who noted the vehicle’s high speed, said Kulick died from blunt force injuries. She ruled the death accidental.

Police are continuing their investigation. No other injuries occurred, Stoneback said. instead will have a remote learning day. The school will reopen Wednesday with an increased police presence.

“The District, in collaboration with the local officials, will continue to investigate this situation and any safety situations moving forward this school year,” the superintendent said in an email. “If we determine who is responsible for this threat or future threats, the individuals will be held accountable to the fullest extent possible.”
