A look back at Lehigh Valley sports stories over the years from Sept. 13.

2002: Allen scores its most points since 1952 and moves to 3-0 for the first time since 1959 by belting Pocono Mountain West 62-0 in the Canaries’ first game on the new fieldturf at renovated J. Birney Crum Stadium. The points are the most since a 62-7 win over Simon Gratz, and the margin of victory is the highest since a 75-0 blanking of Mahanoy

City in 1946. The Canaries’ season-opening winning streak eventually reaches four before it is stopped by Freedom, 36-8. 1997: Kyle Marsteller’s three goals lifts Southern Lehigh to a 3-1 soccer win over Palisades, extending the Spartans’ unbeaten streak in the Colonial League to 100 games. The lone blemish on the Solehi league record since 1992 is a 1994 tie with the Pirates.

1991: Lauren Jiorle scores six goals and Moravian Academy presents field hockey coach Debbie Bross her 200th career victory in 16 seasons with a 9-0 Colonial League win over Pen Argyl.

1987: Rain cancels the Nazareth 250 Scot Car Connection race at Pennsylvan­ia Internatio­nal Raceway, the first scheduled competitio­n at the newly renovated Nazareth track, which underwent $4 million in improvemen­ts after being purchased by Roger Penske in late 1986.

1986: Three years after he was instrument­al in relocating the Allentown Wings of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League to Quakertown, borough native Clyde Smoll Jr. announces he has purchased the Elmira franchise in the New York-Penn League and will step down from his coownershi­p role with the Blazers. 1986: Despite intercepti­ng five passes and recovering two fumbles, Lehigh drops a 17-14 decision at Holy Cross in the first Patriot League game in school history.

1956: Allentown collects just five hits as Schenectad­y completes a three-game sweep of their Eastern League semifinal series with a 6-1 win over the Cardinals at Breadon Field.
